Na jednom z newyorských dálničních obchvatů se v ranních hodinách, kdy každý spěchá za svými povinnostmi, srazí dvě auta. Zdánlivě se vlastně nic nestalo, jen jedno auto zůstalo nepojízdné. Ale pro oba řidiče má jejich náhodné setkání nedozírné následky. Tím jedním je úspěšný mladý advokát Gavin Banek (Ben Affleck Nejhorší obavy, Pearl Harbor ad.), který zmeškal klíčové stání a omylem našel klíč k nekalým praktikám v rodinné firmě, druhým Doyle Gipson (Samuel L.
